What makes you truly joyful? Happiness has to be about having purpose and joy in your life. A bit of va va voom! For me sometimes, like today, a bit of va va voom was easy to create – I just wore a bit of bright lipstick and went for a mindful walk. Sometimes it’s not so easy though. Right now, I do feel like parts of my life need some va va voom and getting back in touch with what makes me joyous and gives me purpose. Right now though, I also have no easy answers to this so I am trying to find small and meaningful ways to get back a bit of joy and va va voom. So lipstick is an easy fix….

This is about finding joy and va va voom even when you don’t necessarily feel it or have feelings of uneasiness about other things that might be going on. So here are a few things I intend to do to help me:

  1. Slowing down – I’ve been trying so hard to make some big decisions and the answers are just not coming. So slowing down by enjoying nature, being outside and giving myself a break are important. Not rushing as if my life depended on it.
  2. Finding purpose tomorrow – tomorrow is a great day – I’m going to be piloting The Advantage with corporate lawyers – a huge step and one that has taken such a long time to achieve. I feel good about it, all prepared and ready and I’m going to enjoy it. Delivering these workshops give me joy, purpose and fulfilment and I intend to tap right back into that!
  3. Relishing all that May has to offer – what a fabulous month – everything is blossoming and growing and is so beautiful. When things feel overwhelming I just need to be outside more, walking and finding joy in nature.
  4. Being grateful – my life is full of so many wonderful things. Taking time to be grateful, even when you might feel sad, is so important and really does help get perspective.
  5. Get reflective – I’m impatient because I want answers to these big question marks I feel are around me right now. The best way to gain insight though is to become more reflective. Writing helps as does quiet time in the mornings.

In the meantime I’ll also wear the red lipstick and watch this great TED talk – Cherry blossoms and rainbows, bubbles and googly eyes: Why do some things seem to create such universal joy? In this captivating talk, Ingrid Fetell Lee reveals the surprisingly tangible roots of joy and shows how we all can find — and create — more of it in the world around us.
