How do we work with young people?

We work with schools, charities, youth offending teams and pupil referral units to increase the chances of young people by; improving educational standards and giving them 21st century life skills . Especially those in environments and situations that need them the most.

What are 21st Century life skills?

These are the skills young people really need to cope in today’s fast paced, high pressured and uncertain world. They need to know how to be resilient and be able to bounce back easily from setbacks, think critically, creatively and fluidly, tap into adaptability to deal with change and be resourceful, be proactive and optimistic and interact with others with empathy and kindness.

What others say…

Workshop Participant

I have learnt to be more proactive, I am more likely to apply most of the ideas on a day to day basis. I would definitely recommend this training to a friend because it has inspired me in a positive way.

Workshop Participant

It is good for those who now have lost confidence to do things or low self esteem - good to achieve optimum wellbeing and encouragement. It is recomendable for those being people out of work for a long period to help give confidence to get back into work.

SusanParticipant

In two days this workshop has really changed the way I look at everything! I can’t even imagine what I will learn by the third day.

ChrisParticipant

It really makes you think about things, sometimes you get stuck in a rut and its really hard to get out.

Alfie

When talking about moving trying new things and new experiences in order to break patterns and make progress one participant spoke about “That funny feeling you get” to refer to the feeling of nervousness we experience when we are out of our comfort zone and said that they understood the power of saying “yes” to push through that feeling.

Georgina

I’m really going to think more about what I want to do next.

Zaid Al-SayyahEmployment and Training Manager

Affinity Sutton worked with Unimenta on the Advantage 7 Skills for the Future programme, aimed at helping residents with significant barriers into work. The programme was very structured and provided the foundation needed to help residents change their outlook on life; challenged their negative perceptions and allowed them to step out of their world and take a birds eye view of their situation.

Workshop Participant

The activities were useful especially for adaptability and critical thinking as it helped develop ideas of new ways to see things. I will try to apply the skills learned to my life.

Our Success Stories

Affinity Sutton Housing Association

Between 2014 and 2016 we worked with this housing association’s most vulnerable residents supporting them with skills workshops to help them back into employment. The workshops ran on a bi-monthly basis and included a third day where the focus was on helping participants work towards an ASDAN short-course in leadership. This partnership also led to us being able to deliver a funded pilot to young offenders in Elstree and Borehamwood.

Borehamwood Youth Offending Team

One of our very first pilot sessions was with the Borehamwood Youth Offending Team working with young people on a non-custodial order. These young people were not attending school and were completely disengaged with the education system. Attending these skills workshops gave them a completely different experience of working in a group and learning about themselves.

“I feel I can make some positive changes in my life after working with Rhian and the team” – young offender Borehamwood

Newham Youth Offending Team

Newham is one of the most deprived areas in London. We worked with Newham Youth Offending Team to create programmes of change that inspire and motivate young offenders to make meaningful changes and positive decisions going forward.

“Thank you so much for working with our young people. We have never seen them so engaged and active – it’s a breath of fresh air”.
